Digital Workshop: Lace Insertions and Appliques with Irena
This event has already occurred. Register to receive a recording where you learn to insert lace and appliques onto garments of all types of fabrics!
DETAILS
The class is structured in a way that each participant can follow along and create a lace insertion and an applique. These techniques are very useful for patches of fab&fun to cover unwanted stains or defects on existing clothes, to upgrade old boring outfits, to cover holes in kids clothes with fun patches, even to resize smallish garments, or for purely aesthetic purposes. Supply List: -A piece of clothes or fabric to place your lace insertion, or applique: a pair of old jeans, a t-shirt with unwanted stain, kid’s pants with holes on their knees, “mendables” from FABSCRAP, e.t.c. -Any sort of textile material to be used for appliques: scrap fabric, scrap leather, scrap fur, sewing project offcuts, etc. -Lace scraps, lacy fabric, tutu, etc. (for lace insertions only) -Iron-on fabric double-sided adhesive (for appliques only) - this could be basting spray, fusible web, adhesive interfacing, or iron-activated adhesive powder, or fabric glue (least effective). -Iron and ironing surface -Silpat or wax (ideally) or plain printer paper - used to protect your iron plate from adhesive -Scissors -Pins -Needle and thread or a sewing machine (optional embroidery foot). -Printing paper and drawing tools to draw the pattern, and to place in between Optional: -Light table -Cutting mat and rotary cutter -Embroidery scissors (the best for lace insertions) -Embroidery thread -Sewing machine with free-motion quilting foot. Please consider saving fabric from landfills for your projects! FABSCRAP's variety of curated scrap packs online are a great choice. You can also visit the FABSCRAP Warehouse in person to shop for your own lace, fabric scraps, and mendable garments! The suggested donation for this workshop is $10. Your donation allows us to provide a stipend to our Workshop Instructors for their time in sharing their skills with the FABSCRAP Community. All who register will receive a recording of the workshop.
