DETAILS

This event has already occurred, but you can still register to receive a recording of the workshop. Suggested donation: $10. The workshop will demonstrate how to make small looms using accessible materials, such as cardboard or paper plates and how to dress the loom by creating a warp. Then participants will be shown how to weave on their new looms using a variety of materials, such as yarn, ribbons, embroidery threads, fabric scraps, or string. The weavers will be encouraged to be experimental in their weaving process and will learn about the SAORI philosophy of free-style weaving. Weavers will then learn how to cast off their weavings and to attach them onto jewelry findings, which can include earring hooks, blank rings, bracelet cuffs, and necklaces. Suggested Materials: Rectangular cardboard pieces roughly 6” wide by 7.5” height and/or Paper Plate roughly 7” wide, though any size cardboard or paper plate will work. Thin yarn for warp making Variety of yarn, embroidery threads, fabric scraps, ribbons or string Strong glue (E6000 or Krazy Glue) Scissors or X-Acto Knife Jewelry findings: earring hooks or studs, blank rings, bracelet cuffs, necklace chains with closures. (optional) Yarn, string, or safety pins can also be used as findings. Jewelry pliers and tapestry needle (both optional).
